A Highly Martyred Love Song.

If I could see your voice echo once more
Off the shattered mirror where once our faces blended
If just one more time I'd feel your hand reaching for mine
Beneath the open, broken window
Where the rain escaped the cold
And shared its pain with us
I'd hold my breath for ten years longer,
Listening for your footsteps
Down a darkened hall
With both walls reaching desperately for each other
If I could just forget those days
When the snowflakes were clones
And all songs were drones
That rambled on for hours
But never made a sound.
Are we too far?
Was it too long ago?
Have these memories burned their blackened tears
So deeply in my flesh
That I cannot forget they were created
And maybe next time
We see ourselves
In that shattered mirror
We'll turn away.
