Mother always said
If it's an English girl
Prepare to be made a fool.
She said they like to experiment a bit
Before they settle down
And although her prejudice was gross
It hits me hard with truth today.
My dad had experienced more of the world
And never said much to me;
Guess he knew this would happen
And the girl would have sold her dignity
To many too many -
To many who won't look after it.
But regardless of generalizations
And fact and experience
It is true, that I wanted
A girl who's heart is clean and pure
To experience everything for the first
And last time
And when I'm being realistic,
Sadly, I tell you I don't mind
But really when I'm dreaming
I dream of love as perfection
And in the moments apart from dreams
I battle with the beast of love
That I so love to battle with -
It's tough, it's tough, and I wish
That love were flowers
But the beast is much too strong
And our love has too much power.
